NHL Picks Monday 2/20

Got a few day games going on today and no late-night games. Went 1-1 on the Top Bets yesterday but overall dropped about .75 units. All good though because we got some plays today that have value for us to get back in the green. Let's see what's happening on the ice today and place some bets.

This Calgary team does make me nervous, but I think they show up today. Recently they got blown out by a middle of the pack team in the Red Wings but then beat a red hot and strong Rangers team. With the regular season games becoming more and more important for postseason positioning, I think the Flames show up today and win by multiple goals. Both of these team though can play really good defense at times, so I also am playing the under. Recently the Flyers defense has struggled but there is no way they give up 6 goals to a team in 3 straight games, right? In the Flames last 2 wins they have held very strong offenses in New York and Buffalo to only 2 goals and Philly's offense is nowhere near as good.

Kraken (-155) at Sharks (+135)

When these teams met back in November the final score was 8-5 in favor of Seattle. Now I don't think this total will get as high, but I can see it getting over 7. Sharks' offense has been poor in recent games but on the year, they average about 3 goal per game. In net for San Jose is James Reimer and I'm expecting him and the rest of the Sharks defense to give up plenty of scoring opportunities for the Kraken. Reimer's stats are not great and the defense as a whole is mediocre at best allowing around 3.65 goals per game. Seattle is in a very close 4 team battle in the standings against Vegas, Los Angeles, and Edmonton. They will need every point they can get if they want to stay in the postseason picture. This Kraken offense has also started cooking over their last few games netting 6 against Philly and 4 on Detroit, which both teams statistically play better defense than San Jose.

Winnipeg is on the second night of back-to-back games and having to play against New Jersey one night, then the Rangers the next is extremely tough. The Jets lost 4-2 against the Devils with Hellebuyck in net so he will not be available for this game tonight. On the flip side, former Vezina Trophy winner Igor Shesterkin will be in net for the Rangers, and I think they will be looking for some revenge. Last time these squads played was way back in October up in Canada and the Jets got the better of New York 4-1. The Rangers have been playing insanely well lately on both sides of the ice and I can't see this Jets team keeping this game close without Hellebuyck.

All of these games tonight will be exciting but this one might be the most intense. These teams are tied in the standings at 63 points each and are on the cusp of a wildcard spot for the postseason. So far this year, the Islanders have won both games in this series and they will still meet each other one more time after this game. Both squads really need a win so I'm really liking this under. The previous 2 matchups have ended with goal totals of 6 and 9 but I think tonight will be different. I can see both teams not wanting to make any mistakes in this game and both teams will be starting their best goalies. Sorokin vs Jarry will be a really good battle as both netminders have great stats this year. Jarry on the year is 16-5 with a 2.65 GAA and a .921 SV%. He is also coming back from injury and will want some revenge for their last meeting. While Sorokin's record isn't the greatest, going 18-17, his Goals Against Average is 2.44, with a Save Percentage of .923. I will be watching very closely to see how this one unfolds, and I believe the under is the smartest play.
