Memorial Day Baseball Night Plays
Here are some notes and thoughts on the last slew of games today. Really not a ton of value if you ask me, so I would keep everything small, I played them for about a half unit personally.
Another card of Free Plays
Giants (-105) @ Phillies (-115)
Both these teams had high hopes to begin the year and are sliding farther out of the playoff picture. The Phillies coming off yet another bullpen blow up, after grabbing the lead in the 8th. The Giants are coming off of losing 2 of 3 to the Reds, and the pitching as a staff has been just bad.
Logan Webb (SFG) - The team just seems to win when he pitches. 5-1 40 Ks 14BB pretty damn good stuff. Last year he pitched against the Phillies 4 IP 4 ER 4K and 2 BB.
Kyle Gibson (PHI) - Honestly he has been pretty damn good. He got hit hard against the Dodgers, but whatever its the Dodgers. Besides that he is going to give you 5 or 6 innings with a couple runs. I mean that is pretty dam solid. 45k 14BB
Toast Pick : pass, coinflip game
Astros (-186) @ Athletics (+156)
Astros in a little hitting slump. They have scored 2 runs or less in 9 of their last 11 games. Astros coming off a 2-1 win last night in Seattle to avoid the sweep. Oakland coming off losing 3 of 4 to the Rangers.
Framber Valdez (HOU) - Last time he faced Oakland he did not look that good, 4 runs in 5 innings, he did strike out 7 and walk 1. Also has looked good his last 2 starts in Oakland. For the year he is 4-2 with 17 ER in 54 IP.
Paul Blackburn (OAK) - He has been great all year. 5-0 on the year, always giving his team a chance to win. The thing is, 2 of the last 3 times he has faced Houston he has got smacked HARD. 6ER in 2IP in one and 1.1 IP and 8 ER in the other.
Toast Pick : Oakland ML (+135), Oakland +1.5 (-125)
Marlins (-160) @ Rockies (+136) Neither team is in great current form. Both 4-7 their last 11. Miami in the middle of a long road trip, coming in from Atlanta. The Rockies will be coming home for the first time in little under a week after having a east coast trip in Washington.
Pablo Lopez (MIA) - Dude is a stud! Hard to pitch with those Fish bats behind you at times. Last 3 starts 17 IP, 21K, 3BB, 8 ER pretty damn good. This will be his first time pitching in Coors.
Ryan Feltner (COL) - Not really much on this guy. Only 10 IP for him on the year. The Rockies bullpen has been suspect for a while now.
Toast picks : Miami -1.5 (+100)
Royals (+136) @ Guardians (-162)
The Royals are not winning games but they sure as hell are scoring runs. Before yesterday, they had scored 5 or more runs in 6 straight games. Cleveland is in about the same spot as far as not winning, going 3-8 their last 11. They are not scoring runs like the Royals though.
Jonathan Heasley (KCR) - Average MLB starter. Not going to blow you away but really has not been blown up either. Not someone I am circling when he is on the mound.
Zach Plesac (CLE) - Has not pitched well all year. Once every 4 or 5 starts he looks good, but then the next time out he will give up 7 runs. In his career against the Royals he has a couple really good starts, and a bad one. Typical Plesac.
Toast play : pass
Nationals (+152) @ Mets (-180)
This Nationals team is hard to get a read on. I guess that's why they are so bad. At times the Bats look really good, and other times they are just gone. Mets, it's the Mets, they just keep winning.
Erick Fedde (WSN) - Honestly he does not have any numbers that blow you away this year, but if you look at the teams he has had to pitch against it. Dodgers, Brewers, Astros, Angels all good teams and he held his own. The Mets have seen him a lot though, so I'm going to be careful.
David Peterson (NYM) - Not a ton of work this year, but in the limited work, he has looked good. He also has pretty good numbers against the Nats in his career, but a few more walks than I like at times.
Toast play : Nats +1.5 (-130)
Orioles (+142) @ Red Sox (-168)
This series has been kinda fun to watch. They have been taking turns throwing punches at each other. Boston had a big game yesterday 12-2. Baltimore has taken a couple games in this series already, nothing is going to come easy.
Tyler Wells (BAL) - I think Wells is good. He doesn't walk guys really at all, which is always a plus. He doesn't have a good record, but it is Baltimore. He has never faced Boston as a starter which could be a small advantage.
Rich Hill (BOS) - he is 1-2 on the year with a bunch of no decisions because he only goes 4 or 5 innings. Really good history against Baltimore. The thing is the boston pen is so bad, you gotta worry doing anything more than F5.
Toast play : over 10 (-105)
Rays (-145) @ Rangers (+125)
Rays coming off a series split with the Yankees, now travel to Texas. Ragers coming off winning a few games against Oakland
Drew Rassmussen (TBR) Stud! Rays win when he is on the mound.5-1 on the year with 41K and on 10 BB
Glenn Otto (TEX) not horrible, but can be up and down at times. He may struggle against the Rays lineup.
Toast Pick : Rays F5 -.5 (+100) , Rays ML (-145)
